Who, what, where, why?...

Who are independent dental hygienists?

What is a dental hygiene clinic?

Where are dental hygiene clinic located?

Why are there dental hygiene clinics?

Since opening Finesse Dental Hygiene Clinic back June 4, 2008, I am asked these top four questions and many others on a regular basis. So let's address these questions for those whose interest is peaked and at the same time providing factual information.

Registered Dental Hygienists who provide services in a variety of practice settings other than a dental clinic are often called "Independent Dental Hygienists" or at times "Private Practice Dental Hygienists".

These practice settings can include a storefront dental hygiene clinic, mobile services or both - such as Finesse Dental Hygiene Clinic. So, it is now possible for dental hygienists to come right to you in your home or visit nursing homes, work places, nursery schools, etc. to see your loved ones!

Independent RDHs in Alberta:

* assess, diagnose (decay and periodontal disease) and treat oral health conditions; perform and provide: x-rays, exams, scaling, polishing, fluoride, sealants, sports guards, teeth whitening, oral cancer screenings, oral hygiene instructions, nutritional counseling, etc.

* provide services as clinicians, educators, health promoters and consultants.

* work in tandem with dentists and other health care professionals.

To summarize, independent RDHs care a great deal about teeth, oral health and overall health. At Finesse Dental Hygiene Clinic, we are especially excited to be able to provide accessible dental hygiene care to Medicine Hat and area residents!
